Bad news! The tool outlet at Johnson Atelier is closed and the inventory has
been sold recently. Their best carbide chisels were from Trow and Holden in
Vermont. They did have the best readily available supply of great tools in this
region.
I have always relied on industry suppliers for tools and technical support. I
noticed that reliable information on blades, grinders, tools etc.
is easily available from trade suppliers, and have not found a need to go to
sculptors' supply houses for tools. Granite City Tool, Eastern Marble and Granite
Supply, Granquartz, and Braxton-Bragg are some in the USA .
As a footnote to the grinder/blade thread, I bought a 4 3/8" ( hand held)
tile saw last year. It has a 10 Amp 13,000 R.P.M. ( a little too fast for me)
moter and leavess my grinder in the dust when I have 1" or so of material to
remove and I can position the surface to be cut in a horizontal position.
And finally a safety story. I work small work over a three bowl sink so I
can capture and recycle the water. Today I left a grinder at my workplace and a
leaky water connection caused the water to short the plugged in grinder.
Fortunately, the Ground Fault Interruptor Kicked off before anyone was hurt.
Despite my lack of care, I write this in hopes that my story will avoid a deadly
accident amongst us. The moral:
If you are using water and electric tools:
unplug all of your tools every night as a habit
make sure you plug into a G.F.I. protected curcuit
Meanwhile, I'm moving to air tools!
