Subject:
mallet/hammer query
I'm new to stone carving and about to buy some tools. I've been recommended
to buy a 2lb lump hammer and dummy mallet but I notice in a lot of pictures
of stonemasons that most people seem to be using nylon mallets. Should I be
buying one of these instead/as well and is there an appropriate weight/s
suitable for a relatively lightly built person?
Can anyone comment on what might be best (presumably this also depends on
what kind of job one is working on). Any advice, comments etc are very
welcome. (I should mention I'm based in the UK if anyone also can suggest
any good suppliers. I'm aware of Tiranti in southern England and another big
company, can't remember the name, in County Durham.)
Thanks in anticipation -
all best
Ann
