hello again, (re)new member checking in
hello out there,
tuning in after an absence. I've missed monitoring -and occasionally joining-
your conversations. if I can figure how to access the archives by date, I'll
review them. I'd like to offer a brief update on the evolution of the STONE
FOUNDATION, an international society of stonemasons, architects, artists,
contractors, quarriers and others involved with or interested in the
traditions of stonework, particularly structural stonework, and their
contemporary applications. the STONE FOUNDATION was launched in November,
2000 at a symposium held in Santa Fe New Mexico. it now numbers more than 200
members. there was another symposium held in Charlottesville VA last August,
and Stonework Symposium 2003, the third such gathering, will take place
in California, in February. it has published a magazine, STONEXUS, the first
issue of which can be viewed at the web site: http://www.stonefoundation.org/
Do check it out, and please inform anyone who might be interested.
by the way, does anyone know the origin of a fable I vaguely remember hearing
a long time ago, about a stone cutter (perhaps Japanese?) toiling away at the
foot of a mountain? his existential whims are indulged by a capricious deity
and he is transformed variously into (among other things perhaps) the
radiantly powerful Sun, an obscuring Cloud, and finally the formidable
Mountain -at whose foot men carve away. I'm trying to track it down.
be well and keep up the good work,
Tomas Lipps
