stone/sculpture lifting equipment
Hi Clive,
I've placed many stones over 1000kg weight using steel
modular scaffold as a gantry. It's ideal for uneven
ground, light to handle and easy to assemble. Any
scaffold hire company could help you with advice, and
could erect the gantry for you. I use a chain block and
webbing slings suspended from an I-beam.
Build the work platform to the height of the plinth, and
use heavy timber packers to support the piece in between
shifting the chain block along the I-beam. The I-beam
will need to be braced by coupling scaffold tubes to the
uprights, and probably extra supports will be needed
under the work platform too.
The advantage of steel modular scaffold is that you can
build it as high as you need to get room to manouvre the
load by hand.
The tripod you are thinking about is limited to one
lifting point- the I-beam free on top of the gantry lets
you change the lifting point while the load rests on the
work platform.
Good luck, Simon
