Dan, You can achive the same result with much less effort by
using "feathers and wedges" in the drilled holes. the secret is
to not force it, but keep tapping each wedge in succession, one
after the other until the stone splits along the desired line.
The thickness of the stone you want to split determines the
depth and size of the drilled holes, and the size of the feather
and wedge sets to use. Trow and Holden has them, and probably
Bicknell, and Granite City Tool.
