Yes it does turn pink, and it also looses all structural
integrity, and will just crumble into dust ( lime ). I learned
this when my studio and carving shop burned to the ground a few
years back, and amongst other things, lost about 18 carvings to
the fire. The only piece that survived intact was a piece in
soapstone. Be carefull with high temperature around calcitic
