Working on small pieces
Hello Pamela,
I have had some luck working with small pieces in
a small vise, with thick leather pads to protect the stone.
I usually use 1 pad wrapped in a U shape under the
stone to support it. Little bench vises are cheap too!
Wet the leather first, wrap it under your stone, clamp it in
the vise, and then let it dry. It will conform to the shape
of your stone, giving a better grip.
Obviously, don't try this method if you think it will crush
the type of stone you are working in. Good Luck.
