Hi ... I am a newbie from Canada. I am a stone sculptor.
This topic really caught my interest. If a private gallery
agrees to represent you and sell your work ... .you should
never ... ever ... undercut them, or sell work directly from
your studio, (with out their knowledge). They assume some
costs to representing you: a store, utilities, sales people
et. They have connections, that you don't, other wise ...
you wouldn't be going to them.
A gallery can free your time up, so that you just sculpt ...
how nice! There are also shady dealers around. Protect
yourself by having your own contract. You should feel
comfortable with your dealer. They need to be able to be
honnest with you, and you must trust their advise, if you
are to take it. I also agree with Clive ... the public will
be your best judge of how you are doing.
Best of Luck: Elle
