Hi!
Hi folks,
I've been lurking on the list for a while now, but haven't posted before
because I hadn't had a proper attempt at carving in stone. Anyway, I've just
finished my first planned piece, so I'm feeling smug enough to introduce
myself.
My name's Danny and I'm originally from England, by trade I do computer
stuff. I've dabbled with woodcarving for a few years, but about a year and a
half ago the wife and I moved to northern Italy, not far from marble
quarries. So I thought I'd better give stone a shot. I've played around with
oddments of marble (nice stuff!), but my first piece is some kind of
limestone (maybe - very dark & hard, but not as hard as granite, fine
textured, slightly crystalline).
I'd be very grateful for any links to carving-related material, especially
beginner's tips. I've not located a source of 'proper' tools yet, I've just
been using what I could find at the local DIY store, so any advice there
would be appreciated.
There's a picture of my (stone) life's work at

Cheers,
Danny.
