carving properties of York stone
One of my first carvings was with York Stonwe - actually reclaimed from a
bit of london pavement which the council were dumping
It is quite hard, fine grained and retains detail very well - my relief
carving lasted well in Welsh weather which causes limestone to turn green
and mossy in a couple of weeks.
i used silicone carbide tipped chisels and you have just reminded me - i
must get another piece of Yorkstone - the colour, the grain - perfect
