Subject: superglue

Hi all,

Superglue? My experience with it would lead me to discourage its use, maybe
the version we have in Australia is inferior but I doubt it.

My concern is that it tends to go crystalline, crumbly and break up in
sunlight, ie, it doesn't like UV.

There are UV compatible products around, often used on glass but I have no
idea how well they would work with stone.

I have stopped using any of the readily available DIY products like
Superglue or Araldite and prefer purpose made products like Tenax.

I have learned that the best way to deal with cracks, even though it may be
truly terrifying, is to "carefully" break the sculpture and then glue it
back together again, Tenax is so thin and can be easily coloured that it is
not too difficult to make an invisible and infinitely stronger joint.

For a long time I never thought these joints were invisible because I could
always see them because I knew exactly where they were, the real test is if
some one else can see them.

Regards Clive
