Thanks Bill and George for your thoughts on
polishing. Basalt is such a beautiful stone, I
can't give it up. I have been running my
diamond pads a around 1500 rpm with lots of
water, but maybe too heavy in the final grits.
I'll try lighter to avoid the streaks, and
I'll try the pressure washer for the white
spots. If that doesn't do it, perhaps I'll do
the pigments. Or what do you think of a black
wax, maybe instead of the polishing powder? In
general I avoid waxes, preferring to leave raw
stone and thinking waxes might yellow or dull
over time. Is this the place to make an
exception?
