Slate- Blaenau Ffestiniog
Hi John,
A long time ago I took a life drawing class in a local
school the teacher became interested in my pro and decided
he would like to get all the students to do some carving
direct from a life model. So at the next lesson he arrived
with a range of small blocks of expanded concrete, he gave
them out to the class and let them carve away with cheap
files and kitchen utensils the outcome was amazing and I am
sure inspiring to many of them.
It left me thinking that I had been short changed at my
school being left to draw toothpaste tubes and the like, if
only more teachers had that kind of passion that inspires
their students. it seems you do and makes me happy! you can
purchase expanded concrete blocks in the U.K quite easily
from a builders yard ... well at least you could a few years
ago and they are very cheap, as for the U.S everyone gives
me a strange look when I mention expanded concrete I guess
the product did not take off here. I think they are also
called thermolite or something along those lines. i know it
is not stone but its cheap and easy for an intro into 3D.
Have fun with it all
Nathan
