Slate- Blaenau Ffestiniog
I think you should use stone - plaster or breeze block is just not the same!
- Chalk is good - Druva Mistry did some early carving in chalk when he was
at the Royal College I think. Why not use Oolitic from Bath or portland -
even children have a great time carving with a real material and it doesn't
have to take that long.
I once took part in a soap carving symposium -it was great fun but
eventually the soap gets in your eyes and leaves a difficult slippery mess
to clear up
