Packing and posting stone
Jane,
I pack and post slate all the time.
I sandwich it between two pieces of thin (4mm) plastic that are slightly larger than the slate. Bend over the edges and tape so that the slate is held in the middle of the plastic. Keep going round it, bending the edges of the plastic tighter and tighter. This way if the package gets dropped, it can only slide a
little way and will be stopped by the tape getting tighter.
Hope this makes sense.
Couriers are another problem. Your slate won't be any safer with any courier!! Don't be tempted to put FRAGILE on the package. This only brings out the worst in them!!
Contact a large courier service such as Omega or Parcelforce. Tell them what you are sending, and an average weight and they will work out a fixed price for you. It works out pretty well - much cheaper - and they collect!
Please call or mail if you need any more info.
Jez.
