My warm regards to all who participate in this wonderful forum. I have finally
found the time to drift from the wood-carving world and begin an adventure into
stone. I've wanted to experience this for many years and have tossed away all
the hurdles and have simply dove in. This forum has already pointed me in
several directions and has clarified some of the questions all beginners are
saddled with. I've read a lot of the archived material in hopes of avoiding a
repetition of basic questions from those of us caught up in the passion of a
new discovery. Please have patience with me for I'm starting from ground zero
here. I've just completed my first low relief carving in marble (Vermont
Danby). Learning which tool to use, how to keep it sharpened, paying attention
to grain and letting the marble tell me which way to go, is a self-taught
exercise of love. Lettering is my passion in wood (incised) and I really hope
I can transition this love into stone. George and Maureen share their expertise
in this venue quite often, and I've really enjoyed those inputs and others from
the group. I'm about to make Alaska my home...... any stone carvers in
Anchorage?
Happy to be here,
Will
