problem chisel
Just a thought...did you sharpen the point either during your first carving,
or before you started the new piece? If so, how did you do it? Run it on a
(non-cooled) grinder, without "breaking" frequently to cool the tool down?
The reason I ask is, one thing that can cause a chisel to dull as quickly as
you describe is that someone has drawn the tool's temper. A fairly common
occurence among the sculpture students at the local college, as I understand,
and not too hard to repair if that is indeed the cause.
