problem chisel
I'm very much looking forward to hearing Jacques' report in a couple weeks.
Doubtful that the point was not tempered at all, untempered steel dulls pretty quickly, although what George spoke about I find quite intriguing. Now, if they only case hardened it, then it might not have been tempered and the hardened part would have quite possibly been worn away. But...the idea of selling a case hardened point...I find, well, frankly disturbing. With cheap tools, though, I suppose its possible.
Improperly tempered tools is a distinct possibility, also the angle of the grind (thanks George, hadn't considered that -- yep, your post is a "print out and stick in the reference folder" one).
