Grinding wheels
Just another take on the use of a dry grinding wheel on on carbide tipped
tools.
I thought the same a s Don (that the heat would not affect the tungsten)
Recently I called Granite City and was told that they have found that the
excessive heat of the wheel does have some effect on the carbide tip. And
recommended against getting it hot. I had noticed that some of my carbide
chisels had fractured. This may not be related to the sharpening method
(maybe my carving style or the very had stone I was working). But I have
switched to using diamond pad to sharpen or slowing the wheel with a reostat
and keeping it hand cool (if I need to really take down some carbide).
For what it is worth,
