Hi Doug,
I checked out your website and was happy to find you were a UGA Cortona
Alumni! I was there summer of 91 in the sculpture program. It was great to
see photos of the foundry area and sculpture yard. Brought back plenty of
memories. My Sculpture teacher was a guy named Keith who taught in N.
Carolina(hmm, not enough coffee in me to remember his last name. I had a
fantastic time there and the experience really defined for me what being an
artist is. At UGA, Horace Farlowe showed me the way to carving good ole GA
marble. Since that's still the cheapest stone I can get, I still work
predominantly in it. I go down to Ga Marble Co. (from VA) every year and
stock up on stone. $100 a ton you can't beat it!
I'm in VA for the past 3 years and have recently formed a stonecarving
group. We are the Virginia StoneCarvers Guild. We are still working on our
website but have a look.

My stone work is predominatntly in GA marble but I've got 2 pieces posted
that I did while I was in Cortona. The "Uomo" is in Cararra marble and
"Within is Italian Alabaster.
When was the last time you were in Cortona? Is the program still doing well?
One of these days I'd love to submit for resident artist there. Have you an
update on Horace Farlowe. Last I heard he was doing a big commission work in
Spain.
Happy carving,
Jeff Thruston
