advice for starting
Hi Gene
welcome to you and all the new subscribers!
If you cannot find anyone to work with, or get in a class being taught at a
college art department, don't despair. You have only scratched the surface
of the information that is available.
Use the internet to visit stone sculptors web sites. Many of them tell a
great deal about how they carve. Just search for abstract stone sculptors.
Check out sculptor supply web sites. Most of them sell books and vidio tapes
on carving stone.
If you have never watched a stone carver at work then a vidio is a good
thing to have. Montoya sculptor supply in West Plam Beach , Florida, had an
excellent tape a couple of years ago.
For starters, you should look up www.stonecarver.com., Walter Arnold's site,
which is awsom.
But , most importantly, get a hammer and chisel in your hands and start!!
Learning stone sculpture is something that cannot be learned through a book
or video alone. So don't be afraid of making mistakes, and get to work!
I hope to have some questions to answer , soon.
Good luck, and get a good dust mask!
George Graham
