For anyone interested, the starting point would be
http://stonecarver.com/carvtool.html (the page that discusses tools).
At the bottom of that page, the paragraph titled "See how a carving takes
shape" has links to a half dozen pages with sequence shots showing the
process from design and raw block to finished carving. The most useful
pages are probably those showing the pair of gargoyles and the Indiana
State Museum gargoyle.
