Getting Started
Quoted text begins.I'm interested in any suggestions for getting started in carving stone.
Any recommendations for a good way to start?
End of quote.
what I did was pick up a piece of stone in the pasture behind
the house, and with a few tools on hand ( cold chisel, screw
driver, wood rasp ) began whittling away at the piece. All of
the fancy tools and equipment have been accumulated over the
past 1/4 century, but none are essential to the process. In my
opinion, a nice piece of limestone cannot be beat for a novice's
first try at carving, and usually can be readily found almost
anywhere.
Good luck, John VanCamp / JVC Stoneworks
