Tools for very hard stone
Jane,
I'm sure you did not plan to send this conversation off on a totally
unrelated tangent, but now that its started, it will just have to run its
course!
I do agree with Bill that you should be able to beat carbide chisels until
moral improves. (That's better than beating puppies.)If you beat them
properly! Because I have had many years of being a habitual tool abuser, I
forget that others may not be at my level of breakage, and so forget that
not everybody has had that weird mixture of pain and pleasure that comes
when an expensive chisel that was made by highly skilled tool makers , that
should last a long time, is ruined, and I did it all by myself!! I guess its
a macho thing . Well, enough of my chest beating.
If you get a bad tool, its always worth trying to get the manufacturer to
replace it. If you are kind to your tools they will serve you well.
