(stone) How to mount on rod and base
It all depends Geri, if you are fabricating the base out of metal...say
something like 1\4" plate, then it would depend on the size of the base
box..right? I can imagine a stone sculpture of the dimentions you have
there being set on a mounting rod and turning about 1\2" or so above the
base.
Keep the weight as low as possible.
If it were me..I would have it on a 6" square x 1" thick base. You could
likely find solid material for this to provide plenty of ballast for your
work.
Just a note about the turning idea...If it is to rotate freely on the 7\8"
shaft, make sure you place a plastic or teflon washer as a bushing on top of
the rod before you set on the artwork.
Artists should be concerned about the mechanics of 3D works, especially if
free movement is involved. Think about using a simple bushing of plastic
ie. a piece of shower curtain rod cover ( cheap at Walmart ) to fit over the
steel support rod.
Hey...lot's of luck, let us know how it all "revolves"
