Subject: Titles, Maya, Maia etc

Dear Kathy,

Your "Maya" suggestion set me going on what seems like the most productive
path yet, my baby names book claims it as variant of May, Mae, Maia etc and
says it means "Great one".

Maya had to ruled out because it automatically takes you to Mayan, an
inappropriate culture on this occasion.

Further research took me to Bona Dea (the Good Goddess) one of her names was
Maia as she was primarily celebrated on 1 May with all our forms of May
celebration emanating from it.

From a personal taste point of view Bona Dea just sounded too gruff and
grown up for this sculpture so another look in the names dictionary led to
Ambrosine - divine, immortal one.

And there is an almost automatic jump from it because of its connection with
Ambrosia (divine food) to Greek Mythology which also suits my purposes. I am
considering "Ambrosine - Bona Filia" (good daughter) but my internal jury is
out on this at the moment. main argument being that its a bit unnecessary
overkill or limiting.

Just as an aside, you provoked to me to search significant women primarily
of antiquity and I came up with a number of very useful leads for another
piece that I'm working on Diotima, teacher of Socrates, Hypathia,
philosopher and scientist, Euterpe one of the nine muses responsible for
music and lyric poetry.

Thanks for your contribution.

As Ambrosine is very new in my mind it would be very helpful if anybody
could point out what they think are unfortunate connotations.

Regards to all Clive
