hand facer
Thanks Walter and John, I guess I've tool meglomania. Small mind, I
guess. Its weird but I just don't like slicing the stone with a saw; I
don't like the straight lines. I've carved marble a bit but I am just
shaking hands with granite. Right now I am trying to make a 15x15x42 inch
block to serve as a pedestal for a portait. I am breaking it out of a 3
ton quarry block. I have a hope to achieve a more or less flat sided form
with a bushed texture. I am at the point of deciding what tools to buy.
I have feathers and plugs, have the rock drill and I have made some
splits. I still have rough surfaces with two inches of relief. Do I take
it down with a hand hammer and a point and then bush? T and H has a four
pound carbide point hammer as well. Or do I us a point in a 1 or 1 1/4
inch dallet then bush. It's easy to dream of a "big time" busher that
would go at it large. Thanks for your responses, Bill
