I had come across a good study several years ago which gave an overivew of
the the current research on ancient Egyptian stone masonry technology:
Building in Egypt; Pharonic stone masonry by Dieter Arnold.
Even back then there must have been a healthy debate between the "pounders"
and the "grinders". One thing is for sure, those stone agers kenw stone.
