Unforbidden geology
There are some fascinating illustrations drawn by Flinders Petrie and
published at Birdsall's site.
Flinders Petrie seemed mystified at how the Ancient builders mortared the
joints of the casing stones and then moved the stones into place until they
almost touched over the entire joint surface (35 sq ft). I haven't seen the
Pyramids except on TV and in books - could the stones have been placed and
then gypsum grout poured between the stones?
The eternal question: Why did they build so accurately? Because they could!
Thankfully not all evidence of construction methods have been removed in the
finishing process so today's experts can piece their story back together.
