Basalt?
I have a small basalt quarry in Maine. If you are ever up there give me
a call and come have a look. Basalt is a wonderful >material to carve.
It is softer than granite but much stronger. In my area it ranges in
color from from jet black to dark blue and green. We are having an
international sculpture symposium in Damariscotta Maine this summer where
basalt will be one of the featured materials. There will be an open
studio course offered at the same time open to anyone interested. The
symposium is in July. The phone number for the Round Top Center For The
Arts in Damariscotta is 207 563 1507. My phone number is 207 546 8992.
Dont contact me until after the 6th of february because I am in New
Zealand at a sculpture symposium.
Jesse
