Subject: Carving Raised Letting in Georgia Marble

As a brief introduction my name is Bill Pulling. I am working in local
marble just north of Atlanta.

I am about to undertake a new project in what is referred to at Georgia
Marble Co. as Cherokee Marble. The plan currently includes a four line
prayer. To include this test the letters may not be larger than 108
point or 1.5 inches tall. The working surface that will contain the
letters is approximately 7 inches high by 20 inches long.

I have done Mani stone style characters in the past that are raised
letters, but these works have been 6 to 8 characters that are typically
6 inches tall and 0.5 inches deep. The question is this; as a novice
carver, is it reasonable to attempt 151 small raised letters in a fairly
hard marble? Or does it make no sense to do this much raised lettering.
There will be extensive detail work to complete this project in the way
described above.

Thanks in advance for any advice or experience you can share regarding a
project of this nature.
