Carving Raised Letting in Georgia Marble
Bill,
Simon is correct about using a setting material to avoid fracturing. However,
don't use plaster of Paris to set the plaque permanently in an outdoor
setting, as the slight solubility of gypsum plaster will encourage the
dissaggregation of the marble when it migrates to the front surface. A lime
mortar (with a small addition of white portland cement if necessary for
initial setting strength) is more compatible for the long term.
