Bush chisel
Hi Bill,
I usually either recut my bush hammers when they are not removing stone
effectively, or save them for when I want a lighter texture and use a new
one for bulk removal of stone.
Last year I enjoyed reading about the recent 'David' conservation project,
there are many websites featuring details.
The author at http://www.sbas.firenze.it/accademia/DAVID/david_50.htm found
that 'Between 1808 and 1815 an "encausto" patina was applied to the David;
this was essentially composed of hot wax capable of protecting the statue
from atmospheric elements. It is uncertain if the surface had previously
undergone other types of protective applications'
The recent project cleaned 'David', there was no need for protective sealing
because it is now in a protected environment
Simon
