Cuturi air hammer
Hi all,
My experience... is that WD40 is too light, engine oil is too heavy (causes
blockage) and 32 grade (slightly heavier than light machine oil) is just
right! I oil the air bottle before use for lubrication, then before putting
away for rust-proofing, and regularly during heavy usage. I also avoid
getting any dust down the air inlet and inside the business end.
I always say that you can't have too much oil and find that excess oil can
easily be wiped off with a rag or paper towel.
I used to work in a large stone factory that ran a primitive compressor with
no air or water filtering or cooling system. We never oiled the air tools
and they blocked regularly, as well as spewing oily water over the stones we
were working. In summer, the tools became so hot we had to run them in a
bucket of water every 10 minutes.
Now, I look after a Stonemasonry training workshop powered by a modern
compressor that cools and filters oil and water from the air. The tools do
not heat up and run cleanly - but they still need oiling regularly. I have
had no trouble since I started using the 32 grade oil.
