Granite fractures
A pioneer cemetery near my home was vandalized one evening via,( we
presume), a heavy maul. Tall granite markers were fractured and torn by the
impacts. I noticed a difference in how granite breaks from one stone to the
next. Epoxy as about the only solution in many cases. Some of the granite
was very crystalline in nature. Like course grain and basically impossible
to reattach. One marble base was fractured and I had to carve a new one
using Indiana Limestone as I have no local availability to good blocks of
marble. That marble fractured in more of a straight line unlike the granite.
Anyhow, is granite an easily carved stone for a person with hand tools and
how would I find a match with so many different colors and coarseness in
stone.
thanks, Kevin Lee
