vandalized granite
Dad,
I made the statement that the only way to get rid of skateboard damage is to
get rid of the kids who do the damage, by waiting for the kids to grow up
and realize that it is wrong to damage other peoples property, they will
stop. As a parent who is skateboarding, I'm sure that you try to teach your
kids not to damage public monuments, and private property. I skateboarded as
a kid, and it was fun, and if my joints would allow it, I'd still be . The
problem is that kids have taken the sport to a knew level, and the damage
that is being done adds up to yours and my tax dollars being spent just
trying to keep up.
I think is would be great if more skateboard parks were built. I can't think
of a better thing to spend money on then our kids. But as long as public
money is being spent on repairs, bean counters will always object to
spending more on the people doing the damage.
The damage I've seen is not just from skateboarders, its also from bicycles
riders doing tricks that they've seen on tv. Balancing in place on the
walls and rails , going places that are challenging caused chips and
scratches that are beyond the budget of most towns , so the only way to
afford it is to raise taxes. But why do that when the damage just keeps
coming?
The most positive thing I can say is that you and other parents need to
lobby and organize to get the money and property needed to build what the
kids want.
