Subject: Monument Dealer's Manual

Hi all,

About 15 years ago I was loaned 'The Monument Dealer's Manual' by an old
monumental sculptor, which I copied and bound (the book, not the mason). I
only have from the contents page to page 158, there was no cover or
publication date. The Manual has been a quarry of useful stone stuff over
the years, although some information is dated. It appears to have been
published in the U.S.A. in the early part of last century, the last date I
can find in it is a reference to the rotating Merchant monument ball in
Marion cemetery, Ohio in 1904.

Page 87 of the Manual lists books that are recommended for inclusion in the
library of 'a completely equipped monument firm'. Heading the list is the
Manual itself, naming the publisher as 'Monumental News, 536 South Clark St
Chicago'. Price: $5.

Does anyone have any other information about this Manual? I am interested in
the history of this book as well as finding other sources like it.

This site http://www.nps.gov/phso/monuments/ mentions preparation to
e-publish 50 years of a trade magazine called 'Monumental News' from
1889-1938. Anyone heard about this project?

Simon
