Norman. I do work with the stuff every day, and would really love a bridge
crain and power hoist. would simplify the job tremendously some days.
However, I could not make that sort of purchase while building the shop, and
since it would require some retro fitting, can't bring myself to justify it
now. I mentioned in a previous discussion the airforce surplus gantry that
I do have.

That with a manual chain fall handle the biggest pieces I'm about to work
with (2 tons + or -). It is a 4 legged affair 10 ft. x 10 ft made of
aluminum on good wheels so it rolls around rather well. Hoist hangs from a
trolley on a 10 ft long beam, and since I can turn the entire rig around in
my shop, it is pretty versitile in placing stone. Could send along a
picture if you wanted, and I think another is avaliable from the place I got
this one. I figure since it is military, there is a million dollars worth
of engineering and development in it, well worth the price I paid.

You are right in figuring all this out before you begin building, and if you
can mamage an overhead system--definitly go for it. Just size it to handle
that future BIG piece of stone.

Good luck,
