Thanks for the reply and pointer. Since it is apparently not waterproof
then perhaps the PVA isnt' the best application to use. The plan is for the
frieze to be inset in to a stone wall constucted over a fountain outside.
So heat, water and sun would be an issue. The website also indicating that
freezing would breakdown the polymer, so while unlikely, still remotely
possible.

The grain is a fine sand like finish, matte, not glossy at all. Litterally
like a medium grade carborundum stone or course whetstone.

Perhaps as you note a morter vs masonry repair would be a better base so
as to avoid the glassy/rubbery look when dried.
