John, thanks for the words of wisdom. Don't know how much correct patching
material cost, but not too worried. Cement could work and I'll need to test
as well. Latex milk is something that I am not familiar with - I'll research
that. And thanks for the tip on grinding vs drilling. I'll have to check the
grain when I see it again.
I realize your point about a patch being noticed when wet. I'm not planning
on sealing, just letting nature take it's course with normal weathering out
doors. Nor normally run water over it. But agree that any seam will be more
noticable in wet conditions.
