Introducing myself: Horst Delkus
Hello to everybody in the list,
I am Horst Delkus from Dortmund, Germany.
I was born in 1952. My early years were spent with studying and work in
different jobs. I travelled extensively around and admired monumental stone
sculptures and smaller pieces wherever he could find them.
Encouraged by Joram Mariga, Henry Munyeradzi and other grand old masters of
Zimbawean stone sculpture, I started my career as a sculptor in the nine
ties.
In my sculptures 96 I call them beings - I am searching for a balance
between the natural stone and the man made form.
My sculptures are directly carved into the stone which I in general select
myself in the quarries or wherever he finds stones that talk to me. So I
work with a wide range of stones: local sand- and limestone, white marble
from Carrara, serpentine and opalstone from Zimbabwe for example.
My work has been exhibited throughout Germany and my sculptures can be found
in several private collections.
Group exhibitions (selected) at Dortmund, Duisburg, Hamburg, Harare
(Zimbabwe), Hattingen, Herdecke, Kamen, MFCnchen (Munich), Unna, Waltrop,
Morges (Switzerland), FFCrth (Bavaria).
One man exhibitions at Townhall Gallery DF6beln (Saxony, Germany) 1999 and
at Menden (Germany) in 2004.
Awards: Silver Myron at 6e Symposium International de Sculpture, Morges
(Switzerland), June 2003.
I am also is an enthusiastic sculpture symposium participant and have worked
at several international sculpture symposia.
