Norman,
My fellow carvers agree with Tom ........the hard stuff is difficult to
work, most avoid detail and all agree the finishing process is tedious
at best.
But, for a source near you you might try looking to companies that
supply marble and granite for counter tops etc. If they cut it
themselves chances are they might have large blocks...... we have such a
company here in town and we're a little bitty town so hopefully in a
more populated area you might hit pay dirt !
And you would really be amazed at what can be done with alabaster.......
