Michaelangelo and Books
Following on from the discussion on Michaelangelo and books for students:
I have a book called Carrara: The Marble Quarries of Tuscany by Joel Leivick
on my shelves, which I remembered following on from the TV documentary shown
in the UK last night. (Of which - it was interesting to the lay person but
said nothing new, and the information about how the pieces were made was
sketchy in the least.)
This book is a series of marvellous black and white photos of the quarries
and the people who work in them. Highly evocative. Plus an accompanying
text.
It is published by Stanford University Press, 1999,
ISBN 08047 36375.
I got mine second hand - it is $30 new on the http://www.sup.org site
Re Gaudier-Brzeska : there is a new book on him coming out in the UK later
this week and reviewed at the link below. Title: Gaudier-Brzeska: An
Absolute case of Genius, by Paul O'KeeffePenguin
