Regarding lettering (again):
In the Archives I found the following recommendations for books about
lettering:
"Letter Cutting in Stone" by Richard Grasby
"Letters Slate Cut" by David Kindersley and Lida Lopes Cardozo
"The Origin of the Serif" by Edward Catich
"Writing & Illuminating & Lettering" by Edward Johnston
"The Inscriptions" by Eric Gill
"Lettering in Stone" by Crossley
"A book of Scripts" by Fairbank
"Gravestone Designs" by Emily Wasserman
I've just bought Richard Grasby's book and as beautiful as the work
is, there is no hint as to how its done!! At all! Before I buy it, I'd
like to know, is the book by Kindersley and Cardozo more instructive ?
Can anyone recommend a good book? Like any other skill, I know you have
to go out and do it, but something to read is a good start.
