tool sharpening
Howard,
If you are in the state's, call Granite City Tool Co. 1.800.451.4570. They
have the wheels for carbide sharpening.
I sharpen carbide tipped chisels by gently grinding the tool until its got
the angle I want. Then I put a finished sharp edge ( for very delicate
finished carving ) on the chisel by hand sharpening on a leftover remnant of
the green sharpening wheel. For heavy carving in granite I keep the edge
angle a lot thicker. 30 to 40 degrees so it will be less likely to have a
corner break off. If the chisel gets to hot to hold, then you are grinding
to hard and fast. Let the chisel air cool. Never dip it in water. The sudden
change in temperature can crack the carbide.
