Indiana Limestone ??sources
Susan,
Because In. Limestone is most commonly used in buildings , as well as a
carving stone, you might be able to find it through a demolition company, a
building contractor, masonry company, and certainly by going through the
major sculpture suppliers. Montoya's in Florida, The complete Sculptor in
NYC.
There are numerous stone cutting business around Bedford IN, that do nothing
but In. Limestone. The quarries are there, and have been operating for many
years, so you should be able to find some easily. Going through a sculpture
supply house is really a last resort. Do a web search for Indiana Limestone
Quarries and go from there.
One last example of the quality of this stone to whet you appetite some
more, the Washington Cathedral in Washington DC is 100% In. Limestone. From
the huge lower level foundation arches to the delicate carvings tucked away
in the nooks and crannies.
You won't be disappointed.
