Flaws and What is quality stone?
Thanks for the good advise about selling work as seconds, or substandard
Clive.
On the subject of quality stone: I have often used plain old "field stone"
for sculptures. Often I have picked up the "rock" because of the color, or
tight grain. The neat thing though, is the results. Often the results are
very interesting and make the piece really unique. Think of a lizard
blending into a stone on a creek bank.... and latter that same stone is used
to sculpt a lizard. I did just that, and I could have sold the piece over
and over. It is still a favorite. The stone is not an identifiable
favorite type....it hasn't been used in antiquity....yet it worked
wonderfully.
The Italians and Greeks utilized local material, and I don't see any problem
with working with my local materials. I live in the mountains though, and I
have allot of great raw material at my feet. I am interested to know what
your thoughts on this are Clive? Thanks again for your daily dose of
inspiration and advice. Elle
