Norman Watts & carving class ...
Hi Edie,
The class at the Corcoran is great, but its only Sunday for 6 hrs and
Monday evenings for 3 hrs, so its a long wait between. I've mostly been
in the basement of the buidling (I should go upstairs some time), the
classes are in the former boiler room -its a wild looking place, what
with welding kit, half-finished sculptures here and there, materials
stock, etc. The class gives me great access to tools but I need to find
something when it ends in May. I've been talking to the instructor and
may be able to work for him outside the class part time as an
assistant, a sort of quasi apprentice. That would be a very good
opportunity to learn. Still, I want to find a place of my own to play.
My SO and I are currently looking for a house in the country where I
can work without bothering neighbors with dust and noise and may have
found a place near Sugarloaf Mountain (nice view, 2 acres, quiet, and
we should be able to afford it, will be meeting a realtor there today
to have a look). Bethesda is a nice place but too congested. When and
where did you live here? I've been here since '94 and always close to
the NIH.
