sculptural preferences
This question may be a bit off the wall, but I figure I'll post it anyway.
I'd like to hear why some of you prefer making large scale or monumental
pieces. I find myself drawn that way (though I'm still making little stuff).
In my research life I often hear scientists say they are interested in this
or that molecular machine or process. I always ask my self where this, often
highly exclusive, interest comes from.
We become fascinated and almost infatuated with some particular subject and
then devote entire careers to it. I know all about this, I've been in love
with the subject of my thesis work although it is fifteen years behind me.
As a rule, scientific types aren't ones to take a question such as this one
too seriously, or too far. Artists seem to look at things differently (if
the literature about art is taken as an indication) and so I'd like to hear
what motivates some of you.
