wandering off down an alleyway - gloves
If you are using hand tools and hitting your hand, perhaps try changing your
grip on your chisel. To prevent this, I was taught to have my thumb on the
same side of the chisel as my other fingers instead of wrapped around the
opposite side, and to hold the chisel a little lower for more control. You
really don't need your thumb wrapped around, as a reasonably light grip on
your chisel is all you need. Knock on wood, but I haven't hit my thumb yet!!
